Ben and Linda Lind, owners of Scandia Kicksled

What is a Scandia Kicksled?

The Scandia Kicksled is a bit of Norwegian genius known as a"Spark". (Spark means kick in Norwegian). The operator skis, steering with the handlebars and there is a seat for a passenger or cargo. The kicksled is a great way to have fun on snow and ice, and a terrific way to stay in shape. It is also a great alternative to cross-country skiing.

There are footrests on each runner and the operator kicks into the snow to gain speed and glide. Steering is done with wooden handlebars. Just like any sports equipment, the Scandia Kicksled has its special environments for use - hard packed snow or ice: and flat, rolling landscapes. There can be loose snow on top of the hard packed base, but powder is definitely what we don't want. Poly Snow Runners increase the versatility.

The Scandia Kicksled is a fun way to enjoy winter as you "spark" or kick your way over snow and ice, regardless of your physical conditions. When you're ready for a break, just relax on the built in seat.

The cost of a kicksled is similar to the cost of ski equipment, probably less. We sell four different sizes of kicksleds and the costs vary with the size of the sled. We also have accessories available.

The Fridtjof Nansen kicksleds that we import are from Norway. We have traveled throughout Scandinavia and regularly compare kicksleds from other manufacturers. We have found the Nansen kicksleds to be the best quality product.

What are its features?

The 2 Adult and 1 medium Nansen kicksleds are made of natural Birch wood, with epoxy coated black steel runners and bumper.

The standard kicksled comes in 4 sizes with a red or blue metal frame, with Maple wood seat and handle bar. All sled runners are spring steel. They are easy to fold flat by unscrewing a bolt for storage or transport.

Attachable 2 inch Poly Snow Runners, Ice Walkers for better foot traction. Child Seats, Hammock, Snow Plow, Basket, Light & Compass/Bell are optional equipment.
